The Civil War CircuitSearch Center

Welcome to the Search Center, another service of the Civil War Circuit.

With the number of Web sites booming into the millions, finding what you're looking for in the great maze is getting tougher and tougher. Good "finding tools" -- Web indexes and search engines -- are a real necessity. If you've done any wandering around the Web at all, you've already run into the "big guys": Yahoo, AltaVista, Excite, HotBot, Lycos, Webcrawler, and so on. But there are dozens and dozens of finding tools out there. Which is the best? The one that finds just what you're looking for and doesn't bury it in mile-long lists of other stuff. Sometimes, it's one of the "little guys" that can pop up just the right site for you... one the "big guys" missed.

Here in the Search Center, youll find a whole bunch of links and forms for lesser-known finding tools: search engines, meta-search engines, and searchable indexes. A lot of them are regional tools, focused on specific parts of the world. All of the links and forms can be installed on your own Web pages, if you'd like. And there are links to some places where you can find even more search engines and plenty of information about searching the Web. Have fun!

Engines and Indexes -- Dozens of search engine and index forms and links.

The Big Guys -- Forms for all those finding tools you already know about. (Figured if we didn't put 'em here, somebody would start whining, "But where's Yahoo?")

More Stuff -- Places to find more search engines and indexes, plus loads of information on searching the Web more effectively.

The Search Center NAQ -- Never Asked Questions about this site and its contents, including information about how these engines were selected and how to get them on your Web pages.

Search Snickers -- You deserve a break today. Here's some stuff to snicker about.
